Purpose of Just Breathe-

Join us for an immersive couples retreat that focuses on deepening your relationship through breathwork, communication tools, and meaningful practices—with a special emphasis on how the tone of voice shapes connection and conflict in relationships.

  1. Deepening Connection:

Throughout the couples retreat, you will discover how your tone of voice can either foster closeness or create distance. We will guide you in using a softer, more empathetic tone to deepen emotional bonds and strengthen your heart connection, leaving you with a renewed sense of intimacy and understanding.

2. Enhancing Communication:

Communication is more than words; it’s how we say them. We’ll help you become aware of the nuances in your tone of voice—learning to speak from a place of love and respect, even in moments of tension. You will leave with tools to engage in conversations that are not only constructive but also infused with warmth, leading to more meaningful exchanges and a stronger connection.

3. Learning to Be Less Reactive:

Breathwork will help you regulate your emotions, softening your tone in moments of conflict. By slowing down and becoming aware of your breath, you can learn to respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively. This shift will naturally ease tension in conversations, promoting a calmer, more loving tone that invites understanding rather than defensiveness.

4. Promoting Positivity, Abundance, and Joy:

A positive and abundant mindset is reflected in your tone. We will explore how adopting a softer, more joyful tone can shift your relationship dynamics toward gratitude and appreciation. You’ll practice using your voice to uplift your partner, infusing daily conversations with kindness and positivity that fosters connection and joy in your relationship.

5. Building Intentional Relationships:

In this section, we will explore what building a purposeful, intentional relationship looks like. We’ll guide you to express your values and shared vision with a tone that conveys commitment and care. By practicing intentionality not just in actions but in how you communicate, you’ll create a relationship rooted in mutual respect and understanding.

6. Breathwork Exploration:

As you learn and practice breathwork techniques, you’ll become more aware of how breath and connection are connected. Sarah will guide you through exercises that show how calming your breath leads to a calmer tone, transforming your interactions from strained to soothing. You’ll leave equipped with breathwork practices that support both inner peace and harmony in your relationship.

7. Creating Lasting Rituals:

Tone plays a vital role in the rituals we create. Whether it’s through daily check-ins or shared moments of gratitude, we’ll help you design rituals that are reinforced by warmth, love, and consistency. These rituals will become the foundation of your ongoing emotional closeness.

With a focus on breathwork, softer communication, and mindfulness, the Just Breathe Couples Retreat will empower you to approach your relationship from a space that promotes peace, love, and understanding. Join us on this transformative journey to breathe new life into your partnership, leaving with a renewed sense of connection and positivity.

Introducing your Retreat Facilitators

Beth Wylie

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Just Breathe was born out of my desire to help couples reconnect and manage their conflicts more effectively. As a Conflict Navigator and Empathy Provider, I have frequently encountered the adage, "It's not what they say, it's how they say it." This truth resonates deeply in my practice, as I’ve witnessed how tone can quickly escalate conflicts. Many of my clients become overwhelmed during therapy sessions, making it difficult to resolve underlying issues. I realized that if this was happening in the therapy room, it was likely also occurring at home.

Over the past decade, I have observed couples becoming stuck in repetitive conflicts, often triggered by the tone and delivery of their words. This realization highlighted the crucial need for a calm and regulated central nervous system during conflict discussions. Drawing from my own journey of learning to be less reactive through consistent meditation, I began teaching my clients to cultivate awareness of their emotional reactivity and the impact of their tones.

This led to my collaboration with Dr. Sarah Anne Rothman, a Naturopathic Doctor and Breathwork Retreat Leader, to create a holistic retreat that promotes inner peace, harmony in relationships, inspiration, and deep connection. We’re both thrilled to share this unique experience with you.

With over 15 years of experience as a couples therapist, I have consistently focused on couples, employing the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy from the outset. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Hawaii and Washington state, I am a Level III trained Gottman Therapist, Bringing Baby Home Educator, and a 7 Principles Relationship Workshop Facilitator.

I find tremendous fulfillment in this work. My specialty lies in creating a comfortable and safe space for individuals to explore their actions, goals, and efforts. While relationships have always been central to my practice, I have increasingly recognized the profound impact trauma can have on our central nervous system and, consequently, on couples' conflict management. I am fascinated by how our brains and past experiences affect our ability to navigate conflicts. Ultimately, my goal is to help clients understand their physiological responses and harness their breath to heal, allowing them to experience joy, trust, and vulnerability in their relationships.

Since getting sober in 2018, I have opened myself to a world of new opportunities, learning to show up better in my relationships and in the world. Through meditation, breathwork, and the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, I have learned to calm my central nervous system and lessen my reactivity, enriching my connections with others.

Dr. Sarah Anne Rothman

Certified Naturopathic Doctor
I am a Naturopathic Doctor, Acupuncturist, Breathwork Facilitator and Mama of two. I am a lover of the ocean, the trees, neon green moss after the rain, the medicine in plants, flowers and food, people, giggles, sunshine and barefeet.
I value an integrative approach to health, through preventative medicine, functional medicine, mindfulness and individualized treatment.
I encourage you to take an active role in your health and honor your body's innate ability to heal.
Healing in all its forms ignites me. I am honored to bear witness to it daily, in myself and in all the amazing humans I have met on this journey.

I am a Board Certified Naturopathic Doctor in California, Hawaii, and British Columbia and a Nationally Licensed Acupuncturist. I am currently offering patient visits through telemedicine for those near and far and in person on Maui and in California. I also offer Retreats and Breathwork programs all over the world, as I am passionate about group medicine, integrating mind and body, functionality and frequency and embodiment of the ethereal.
With a background in clinical practice, I have received extensive training in Women's Health, Fertility Thyroid Health, and Pediatrics. My experience also includes working in clinics and hospitals abroad, particularly in Bolivia, as well as collaborating with patients and physicians in rural natural health and homeopathic clinics in Kenya. For over a decade, I founded and served as the Medical Director of Thyme Integrative Health, a leading Integrative Health Clinic in Northern California that brought together and managed a diverse group of practitioners, including psychologists, integrative MDs, midwives, physical therapists, naturopathic doctors, and acupuncturists.
Breathwork is a deeply healing and sacred ancient practice. It is one of the most powerful modalities I have ever witnessed and is so beautiful and efficient because it is all about self-exploration and self-healing. It honours the medicine within you. It is an active and energizing form of breathwork that goes deep beyond words.
It brings out the medicine within you.
It can help spread light, move stagnation and old stuck energies, emotions, and patterns. It can help release trauma, grief, and pain that we may carry from our childhood, our lineage and our environment. It can help deepen self-love as well as love and compassion for everything that surrounds us. It can bring out the wildest joy and the most tender of tears. It is a beautiful practice to expand and explore creativity, connectedness, and purpose. It can help rekindle and reignite the spark, passion, compassion, and joy in relationships. I am in love with this work, as it has helped me and all those I have worked with expand on so many levels. One Breathwork Healing session can feel like 20 years of meditation, therapy, or yoga. It cracks the heart open quickly and is accessible to everyone.
I believe that how we choose to nourish and move our bodies is integral to overall health. I believe strongly in the power of food as medicine, the healing potential of herbs and nutrients, and the importance of mindfulness and breath in health.
I work with and see YOU as a complex, fascinating, and whole person.

Beth and Sarah have fallen in love with what the Aloha spirit represents and we hope to share some of that with you as well.
Will you be donating any of the proceeds of this retreat to Lahaina?
Beth and Sarah have pledged to give 10% of the profits from this retreat to The Maui Medic Healers Hui. Beth has spent her time volunteering with MMHH and was and continues to be blown away by the Aloha that they provide for EVERYBODY! Even if you do not join us on this retreat, please consider donating to MMHH for future Maui donations! Mahalo!
